This 2016 final report from the Santa Barbara County Food Action Plan reflects a two-year, community-driven effort to examine the region’s food system — from growing and processing to distribution, sales, and food waste. Convened by County Supervisors Salud Carbajal and Steve Lavagnino, the plan is the result of over 1,200 volunteer hours and involvement from 200+ community members, including nonprofits, growers, educators, healthcare providers, and community activists.
The plan lays out practical, actionable recommendations for building a healthier, more resilient food system that supports public health, economic vitality, and environmental sustainability for Santa Barbara County.
