Advancing Food Hubs in Los Angeles
<p>Produced by the Los Angeles Food Policy Council (LAFPC) in partnership with a business consultant, this 72-page report examines the case for a food hub in Los Angeles County — infrastructure that aggregates products, coordinates logistics, and supports compliance and light processing for small and mid-scale farmers, particularly farmers of color and urban growers, who face structural barriers accessing wholesale and institutional markets. Drawing on focus groups and a regional survey of 59 food system stakeholders, the report finds strong demand for expanding local food purchasing (70% of respondents), significant logistical and cold-storage gaps, and a need for business and certification support. Part two translates these findings into a market analysis, review of food hub business models, and policy, governance, and financial recommendations for building a community-driven, equity-centered food hub in Los Angeles.</p>
