From Trends to Action: MBFT’s Moss Landing Fisheries Resilience Pilot
The Monterey Bay Fisheries Trust (MBFT) is launching a 12-month pilot project (July 2026 – June 2027) in Moss Landing Harbor under its Future of Blue Initiative, focused on strengthening the climate resilience of Monterey Bay’s commercial fisheries and working waterfronts.
The pilot builds on the first comprehensive regional fisheries analysis in over a decade — Monterey Bay’s Commercial Fisheries: Status & Trends (Summer 2026) — developed with researchers from UC Santa Cruz, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Stanford’s Hopkins Marine Station, drawing on 45+ years of fisheries, economic, and ecosystem data. The project will validate these findings with the fishing community and convene stakeholders — fishermen, harbor leaders, researchers, and economic development partners — in a facilitated planning workshop to identify priority infrastructure and adaptation needs for Moss Landing, with the goal of producing a replicable model for other working waterfronts statewide.
