Monterey Bay Fisheries Trust: 5-Year Strategic Plan (2024-2028)
The Monterey Bay Fisheries Trust (MBFT) has released its 5-Year Strategic Plan for 2024–2028, “Local Seafood for Local Communities.” MBFT was launched in 2014 by representatives from the fishing industry, the City of Monterey, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and The Nature Conservancy to secure fishing rights and support Monterey Bay’s working waterfront and local, sustainable seafood economy.
The plan lays out MBFT’s mission to ensure sustainable fisheries, resilient communities, and a healthy ocean, and its 10-year vision of a thriving Monterey Bay waterfront supported by local consumers and contributing to a resilient regional food system. It is grounded in a set of core values — community-led solutions, sustainability, collaboration, stewardship, integrity, and diversity, equity & inclusion — that guide the organization’s work across every fishery important to the local fishing economy.
