World of Waterfronts: Voices from the Pier – Who Fishes Here? Tell Us Your Fish Story
This community engagement piece from the “World of Waterfronts: Voices from the Pier” project invites local fishers and pier visitors at the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier to share their experiences and ideas. Produced in partnership with LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn’s office, Long Beach Fresh, and the Port of Long Beach, “Who Fishes Here: Tell Us Your Fish Story” gathers input on what people catch, how they connect to the sea, and their cultural and geographical ties to the waterfront.
The piece also asks the community to help design future improvements to the pier — covering seating and comfort, heating and gathering spaces, greenery, lighting, signage, fish processing and cleaning stations, and overall character — ensuring the people who use the pier most have a voice in its future.
