Marin Food Policy Council: Policy Platform
The Marin Food Policy Council’s Policy Platform, “Creating a Resilient and Local Food System,” is a living document — last updated February 2021 — that captures the Council’s collective expertise and consensus positions on key food system issues. It serves as a decision-making tool for acting on policies and a policy agenda for identifying areas needing further work, intended for Council members and community partners, local food systems advocates, and local and state policymakers.
Each theme in the platform includes a problem and solutions statement, key issues, and equity impacts on children, older adults, and Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) communities. Topics include food assistance programs such as CalFresh, WIC, and school meals — noting that Marin ranks in the bottom third of California counties for CalFresh participation despite the county’s overall health rankings.
